This classic UK Chocolate Log Recipe is the perfect dessert for any occasion. Whether it’s a family dinner, a birthday party, or a special occasion, this delicious chocolate log is sure to be a hit! Rich and decadent, this chocolate log is made with a moist chocolate sponge and filled with a fluffy chocolate cream. It’s then topped with a creamy chocolate ganache and finally a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

Ingredients

For the sponge:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 100g plain flour
  • 25g cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 50g melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk

For the filling:

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 200ml double cream
  • 50g butter

For the ganache:

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 200ml double cream

Instructions

To make the sponge, preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4. Grease and line a Swiss roll tin with baking parchment.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, and carefully fold into the egg mixture. Add the melted butter and milk, and fold in until fully incorporated.

Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the sponge is springy to the touch. Leave the sponge to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a piece of baking parchment.

To make the filling, melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. In a separate bowl, whip the double cream and butter together. When the chocolate is melted, add to the cream and butter, and mix until fully incorporated.

To assemble the chocolate log, spread the chocolate filling over the sponge and roll up. Place the log on a serving plate and put in the fridge to chill for at least an hour.

To make the ganache, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. When the chocolate is melted, add the cream and mix until fully incorporated. Leave to cool for 10 minutes, then pour over the log. Sprinkle over some cocoa powder, if desired.

Serve the chocolate log chilled or at room temperature. Enjoy!
