Ingredients

This recipe for a delicious sour cream chocolate cake will take you about an hour and a half, from start to finish. You will need the following ingredients to make it:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • 1/2 cup of boiling water

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter and lightly dust with flour. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Beat in the vanilla extract.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Add the sour cream and mix until smooth. Slowly add the boiling water and mix until combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
