Hot Chocolate Stir Sticks Recipe
Ingredients
Nothing beats a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Now, you can make your own hot chocolate stir sticks that will make your cup of cocoa even more special. To make the stir sticks you will need the following items:
- One and a quarter cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- One tablespoon of coconut oil
- One cup of crushed candy canes, peppermints or other hard candy
- One tablespoon of ground cinnamon
- Assorted sprinkles and decorations
Instructions
To make the stir sticks, start by melting the chocolate chips and coconut oil together in a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler you can create one by filling a pot with a couple inches of water and then placing a heat-safe bowl on top of the pot. Once the chocolate chips and coconut oil are melted, stir in the crushed candy, cinnamon and a few drops of flavoring extract, such as peppermint or almond. Transfer the melted chocolate to a shallow dish, such as a pie plate. Place the dish in the freezer for about 15 minutes, or until the chocolate starts to harden.
Once the chocolate has hardened, use a cookie cutter, sharp knife or other kitchen utensil to cut out shapes in the chocolate. Place the shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Decorate the shapes with sprinkles, nuts and other decorations. Transfer the baking sheet to the freezer and freeze for about 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely hardened. Once the stir sticks are hardened, you can use them to stir your hot chocolate.
